خلاصه داستان : داستان در جزیرهٔ هینوموتو واقع در شرق دور دنبال می‌شود جایی که انسان‌ها خود را در قلعه‌هایی به نام ایستگاه‌ها مخفی کرده‌اند تا به وسیله آن‌ها از خود در برابر حمله موجوداتی شبیه به زامبی، دارای قلبی از جنس آهن، که با عنوان «کابانه» شناخته می‌شوند، محافظت کنند. مردم این جزیره تنها بوسیلهٔ لوکوموتیوهای بزرگ و زرهی با نام هایاجیرو که با بخار کار می‌کنند، قادر به عبور و مرور بین این ایستگاه‌ها هستند. ایکوما پسری جوان که در ایستگاه آراگانه زندگی می‌کند و به ساخت موتورهای آهنی و بخار مشغول است. او و بهترین دوستش تاکومی به منظور شکست کابانه‌ها، موفق به توسعه سلاحی به نام «سورانوکی زتسو» می‌شوند و...

As the world is in the middle of an industrial revolution, a monster appears that cannot be defeated unless its heart, which is protected by a layer of iron, is pierced. By infecting humans with its bite, the monster can create aggressive and undead creatures known as Kabane. On the island Hinomoto, located in the far east, people have built stations to shelter themselves from these creatures. People access the station, as well as transport wares between them, with the help of a locomotive running on steam, called Hayajiro. Ikoma, a boy who lives in the Aragane station and helps to build Hayajiro, creates his own weapon called Tsuranukizutsu in order to defeat the creatures. One day, as he waits for an opportunity to use his weapon, he meets a girl named Mumei, who is excused from the mandatory Kabane inspection. During the night, Ikuma meets Mumei again as he sees Hayajiro going out of control. The staff on the locomotive has turned into the creatures. The station, now under attack by Kabane, is the opportunity Ikoma has been looking for.

Munich, Germany, 1923. Two years have passed since Edward Elric was dragged from his own world to ours, leaving behind his country, his friends and his younger brother, Alphonse. Stripped of his alchemical powers, he has been all this time researching rocketry together with Alphonse Heiderich, a young man who resembles his own brother, hoping to one day find a way back home. His efforts so far had proven fruitless, but after lending a hand to a troubled gipsy girl, Edward is thrown in a series of events that can wreak havoc in both worlds. Meanwhile, at his own world, Alphonse Elric ventures deeper into the mysteries of alchemy in search for a way to reunite with his older brother.
